WCW it was known earlier, as Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atantic Championship Wrestling these two federations were under management Jim Crockett (Jim Crockett Promotions) and were the same federation, despite of different names. In November 1988, Jim Crockett has sold Jim Crockett Promotions WTBS. Jim Crockett Promotions were very much connected with NWA and made its basic part. To keep away from NWA, WTBS have begun to change names and television programs from NWA to WCW. These changes were finished by the end of 1990. By January 1991, name WCW already was more popular and familiar for everything, and name NWA began to forget. WCW formally belonged Time-Warner and WTBS, but the real owner was Ted Turner because at it the basic stock of actions was. January, 11 1991, Ric Flair beat Sting, becoming NWA the world Champion Heavyweight. It was on the spot named World Champion WCW. There is an erroneous opinion, that belt NWA was renamed into belt WCW, but it not so, is simple Flair had two belts, therefore title WCW has no any attitude to title NWA. The same history and with titles of world Champions in Command Fight, WCW have created titles and have given them Butch Reed and Ron Simmons, to current champions NWA. However NWA have given belts of World Tag Team Titles to Steve Williams and Terry Gordy in 1992. In 1992, Champion NWA became Masa Chono, and after him champions were Great Muta and Barry Windham. In 1993, Ric Flair defeat Sting and has united two more titles of the Champion (Flair was the world champion in Heavyweight WCW, and Sting the International World champion in Heavyweight in WCW). "The Powers That Be" this name for Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara and Bill Bancks, they have left from WWF, WCW have employed them to replace leaving Eric Bischoff.
